I kicked off the year being crowned the 2010 G1 South Australian Champion & 2010 Stadium Drift SA Champion, so I had a lot of work to do if I was going to aim for both championships again.
For the first round of G1 2011 I placed 3rd which was a great result with some really good battles. I also took home 2nd place for the 2011 Stadium Drift SA Championship which was also fantastic.
In May I became the 2011 Drift Supercup Champion, which added to the amazing 2010 season I had participated in. Unfortunately however these successes were short lived due to engine problems towards the end of the year.
I was very lucky to have been invited to The Tectaloy International Drift Challenge, a side event to The World Time Attack Challenge held at Eastern Creek Raceway in August. With this event we had the new front on the car, a 180sx front end on an S14, some love them others hate them!
Unfortunately I had some engine problems which put me out of the running for the event, despite this it was one of the best tracks I have been too with amazing world class facilities.
Following WTAC in August I managed to sneak in a few more events before the years end, from a Stadium Drift SA event at Tailem Bend Motorsport Park which I placed first in, to competing at Calder Park for VicDrift's Drift Attack competition. I was very excited to qualify first and place 4th, with Nigel Petrie 3rd, Andreas Paraskevas 2nd and SA great Jake Jones taking the win.
Another highlight for 2011 was competing int he first round of the new Australian Series, The Australian Drifting Grand Prix at the Calder Park Thunderdome. With wall to wall action, along with empty water barriers it sure provided some entertainment! I was lucky enough to qualify 5th and finish 5th in this round.
Unfortunately the final round of G1 was the end for the neo 25 (and the 180sx front), with constant overheating issues during the event, we finally called it a day and decided to pull the motor down, evaluate the damage and work from there.
However.... while the S14 was out of action, I chose to build something on the cheaper side for some fun. I purchased a 180sx shell, chucked in a Holden RB30DE, then added an RB25 turbo to it and a few other little goodies. I then went and did skids over New Years!
During the week we will update on the 2012 rebuild and preparations for next weekends Mt Alma Mile Hillclimb event.
